About UniverSouLove:
A native of Rockford, IL, Christopher Donshale Sims, is a local poet, spoken word artist, performer and workshop leader on The Art of Spoken Word. Christopher is available for features, open mikes, hosting poetry-related events and casual events where poetry and music is needed. Christopher is a talented, serious, and focused artist who has been called Rockford's Poet Laureate.
Since 1997, UniverSouLove has graced stages all across Illinois and the United States. His focus and tenacity on stage is infectious and uncanny. With one poem, this poetic philosopher can move and soothe crowds. He has been featured at venues/events such as, The Poets Den (Washington, DC), When Brothers Speak Spoken Word Concert (Toronto, Canada), the Chicago Poetry Festival (Chicago, IL), Rockford’s ArtScene events (Rockford, IL) and Tillie’s of Brooklyn (Brooklyn, NY) .
Christopher is a co-founder of one of Rockford’s premier open mic nights, Poetry for the Soul at Bar3 and continues to host a weekly open mic at Katie’s Cup, an all ages venue.

I Am a Poet
I am a poet
I turn words into slaves
I engrave page after page
With rhythmical rage
Once I engage
The page becomes my stage
To wage wars with syllables, consonants and vowels
I howl in the thick of the night
To conjure my poetical might
Each word written is transformed into light
I am a poet I dive deep into world of diction
To bring forth image and vision…
